New Haven in Film
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 месяца назад
A collection of New Haven clips from the 1930s through the 1960s. Thanks to Walt Berko of Railroad Video, Charles Houser, Glory Machines 1/Herron Video and the Prelinger Archive for the material. Of note are the three lightweight experimentals the NH toyed with in the 50s, The FM Speed Merchants, Baldwin hydraulics, and the "Hot Rod" RDC set. I've had this put together for a while waiting to ad...
Boston & Maine in Film

A collection of Boston & Maine clips from the 1950s through the 1970s. Many of the scenes are on the Connecticut River Line with CP run-through power. Thanks to Walt Berko of Railroad Video for the bulk of the material. I've had this put together for a while waiting to add sound, but other commitments have taken a lot of my spare time so I've chosen to publish it anyway.
Iarnrod Eirann: A Day Out At Limerick Jct
Просмотров 8026 месяцев назад
I'm looking back through my archives for unposted content. This footage is from a 2005 visit to Ireland. I spent the better part of a day at Limerick Jct. which involved many hours of waiting and brief spurts of activity. This was really the beginning of the end of the "orange era" of Irish Rail, with the new CAF push pull sets and DMUs arriving in a green scheme while the Mark II and many of t...
Mack Locomotives
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In addition to their well known line of trucks, Mack also ventured into the railway market in the 1920s and 1930s. They provided power packages for railcars ("doodlebugs"), rail buses, and small switching locomotives. The two boxcab locomotives at the start of the video are former trolley locos from a lead mine in Missouri, repowered with Mack engine/generator sets. They served as the plant swi...
Marschbahn 2019
Просмотров 4379 месяцев назад
I came across the raw video from my 2019 Marschbahn visit while researching, and realized I had not yet edited it together. For those who have not seen my Marschbahn 2013 video, I recommend it to show how things have changed in the intervening six years. The Marschbahn runs northward from Hamburg Germany to the Isle of Sylt in the North Sea, the latter being accessed by a causeway over the tida...

I put this together about 20 years ago as an intro to a video program presented shortly after the mine closed for good. Photos used with permission, credits at the end of the video.
Conrail OCS in Film
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.Год назад
A recent find from the lens of Red Moser. A chronological compendium of Conrail OCS scenes around the Reading PA area from 1982 to 1988. This collection nicely compliments my OCS videos which begin in 1988. In these earlier scenes you can trace the timeline from the blue era, to the freshly painted 4022 sans nose logo, to the changes in placement of its Hancock Air Whistle and replacement with ...
Portugal: Narrow Gauge Steam
Просмотров 2 тыс.Год назад
A recent dip into the ebay vault yielded these scenes of the now-closed narrow gauge lines through the Tua and Cargo river valleys in Portugal. No dates on the film, but I believe it's the late 70s or early 80s. Super 8 silent film with sound added from my video library. Enjoy!
Reading Company"s ARCO: Moving autos by piggyback
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.Год назад
Details are in the description panels in the video. While short lived, this was an interesting and unique operation. Film credits to Charles Houser and Homer Grim, the latter film courtesy of the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society. Addendum: The ARCO facility opened in September, 1962, not 1964 as stated in the text panel. Thanks for watching.
LV Lehigh Valley Cornell Red Years

This short video consists of outtakes of the Lehigh Valley RR from a recent film acquisition. The first several scenes are at Bethlehem, then follow progressively from Treichlers to Lehigh Gap. The PA on freight at Richards is out of sequence, but then we catch it again at Lehighton. The final scene is at Jim Thorpe with an Air Products load on a high-and-wide special. Sounds added from my vide...
GE Centercabs in the Northeast

General Electric's 44 ton model was targeted at Class 1 railroads with a view to reducing crew size on branchlines and small switching operations. According to then-current labor agreements, 44 tons was the maximum weight for a locomotive to operate without a fireman. Many were either purchased new or found their way onto various shortline railroads and tourist operations. Herewith, a compendiu...
Electroliners to Liberty Liners

The Electroliners/Liberty Liners are some of my favorite pieces of electric traction, with only the PRR GG1 and Little Joes being higher on the list. I recently acquired an extensive traction collection, and decided to do this video of that material combined with some other scenes from my archives and added clips from RUclips contributors @rekelly2, @Trenton Line Railfan, @charleyw1946 and @San...

What ever happened to that pullman green dome car?
@@Conrail76 Sold to Ferrocarril Mexicano in 1999.
it never be like Santa Fe trains 🚂 Santa Fe is best company ever 🎉❤❤❤❤ love David ❤️🎉😊
I'm enjoying your videos.
Those trainmasters! Those RS3s or whatever are really cool.
No Train Masters in this video. I think what you are calling TMs are actually ex Reserve Mining EMD SD9s. The RS Alcos are RS3ms, rebuilt by GBW with 2000HP 251 engines and lowered short hoods.
Nice film and caboose too
Those 4700's never looked the same, each one having a unique vent placement or color. Long before my time but I was blessed to see just one of them move east thru Michigan on its way to Canada.
Heard the recording "Titans of the High Iron" as a young boy. That introduced me to Reading T1 2124 and her beautiful Reading 6 chime whistle, (off a G3 Pacific.) Been a huge fan of both for the 60 odd yrs since! Really enjoyed watching this!
Nice video - you really covered all the bases. Are you familiar with the short lived Smithfield Terminal carfloat out of Newport News?
Nope, never heard of that one.
Excellent, glad you found this to share, thanks!!!
Love that borrowed NS in the lead, ex high hood SOU 3302 SD40-2. I wonder if NYSW was required to run it long hood forward as was the old NW/SOU custom.
I believe they had dual controls and could run with the engineer on the correct side either way. As you say, long hood forward was a custom, not a requirement.
On those trains with a cab car, how does it work when they first had it on those trains?
The reason why the line from Green Bay to Hilbert was abandoned was because of no local businesses needing continued rail service and because Milwaukee road went bankrupt right?
Yes
And the bridge was unsafe for trains too right
So the line would have been torn out right
Man that was kick ass bro... Love the old engines getting the job done !!
Wow, color videos of the old Quill motors! And ironically, color vids of the Boxcabs......in their black paint scheme!
The source material was film, not video. Portable video tech didn't exist the early 50s. Sound was added to the original silent film.
I've never seen double-deck CP Rail passenger cars before, and what vintage are the locomotives with the arrow marking on the front? Great video.
The double deck CP cars date from 1970 and were only used in Montreal commuter service. The locomotives are also ex CP and date from the 1950s.
@@fmnut Thank you.
In 1964 we rode from Vancouver, B.C. to Durand Michigan
Incredible industrial machines as well as the hardworking crews that operated and maintained them. If these were still operating today, the modern safety standards might mandate that: 1) The operators on the Huletts and the personnel inside of the ship's hold would likely be required to wear masks or respirators due to the fine dust floating during the loading/unloading process. 2) hot light bulbs 2:45 that can be touched would be forbidden; LEDs would be the norm. 3) At 7:03, riding the roof of a moving Hulett might ether be forbidden or would requirie the wearing of a safety harness.
What happened to the San Manuel Arizona Railroad ore freight train?
The mine and smelter were permanently closed in 2003.
@@fmnutDid you know that I found it in Arizona’s Shortline Railroads?
@mbart5113 no, but I'm not surprised.
@@fmnut That’s all right. How do feel about it in Arizona’s Shortline Railroads? What did “Every engine has to pull its own freight train,” mean to the San Manuel Arizona Railroad ore freight train?
@@mbart5113 I have no idea.
Great enjoyed this thank you
Спасибо! Прекрасное видео. Это не только сохранение исторического наследия, но и работа для людей. Компьютер под голубыми небесами.

Thanks for sharing!! Great video! Probably most all of this is gone!☹️
High hoods puttin the work in too
Quite an effort, great presentation. Worthy of more thumbs than I can give. Thank you.
Great stuff, took me almost 10 years to find this! My favorite thing about footage in Appalachia, aside from scenery, is the classic sound of that high-throttle whining from the EMDs
I was at this place today had the tower open and all the other buildings. Great day
Wow, amazing video, we used to go to the UP with my Grandparents and see the Chief Wawatam, always amazed to us kids, so many memories!! Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful film of WM and B&O superpower steam!
Big Flats, NY on the old Erie Railroad mainline at 23:03. The small Erie bridge is no longer there. Conrail took it out sometime in the 1990's after they single tracked the entire line and replaced it instead with a concrete culvert, which still stands today. The former DL&W mainline once ran beside the Erie mainline here, but that's long gone since the late 1950s now.
Fantastic stuff! I spent a few days based on Sarina at the end of May/beginning of June, just short of the start of the 2024 Crushing Season. I saw the 2'/3' 6" gauge crossing at Koumala, even getting my own scenes of a 2800 going through. I learnt a bit tonight, such as the mid-train helper, like on the coal systems. What a sight! 😍 I'd like to see you do more, but with a good microphone. The wind noise was your only let down. Thanks so much otherwise. 🙂🚂📹
Because it's not ril tracks lmao Anyway my old man was a brake man in ElReno. I remember things from 2 yo. Was very last of the steamers. Diesel took over immediately and they cut up the steamers just as fast. Thanks for the post!!
I enjoyed seeing all the older locos and a lot of fallen flags.
The harpes seem to have on/off lights. I don't know why, because the wigwag was supposed to imitate a red lantern swung by hand.
Excellent. Very nice to see Wairoa at the end there. It is so often overlooked.
At 11:40 we begin to see Penn Central GG1s and Amtrak Metro Liners. Very complete histrical timeline.
Were the PCCs a subway of sorts or was the viaduct simply traversing under the streets for a minute?
Not a subway, just short dips under cross streets to reduce conflicts with traffic.
